"Looking Back"

Rachel Ashwell

The Barn House Boys

Me & Jerome

Picket Fences

Rooms & Gardens

Michele of Avec Moi Decor

Having the opportunity to meet some very talented shop owners/designers will always resonate a special feeling for me. Certainly each individual has accomplished their only level of success in the world of design. For me the greatest of all was having Rachel Ashwell visit my booth during my first vintage show.

Two of my most favorite shops by far are Rooms & Gardens in Santa Barbara and Avei Amor in Los Olivos. I always make it a point to stop and browse around whenever I am in the area. Meeting Jerome of The Barn House Boys was a treat as well as Leanne of Picket Fences in Solvang, CA.

There's some fun stories as well as insights on how there individual journeys began and you can read them all here at....The Blue Farmhouse.

Sincerely, Rita

"A Little Goes A Long Way"

The first pair of gold sconces were a gift

The second pair... a thrift store find

Great find...wrong color

A fresh coat of white paint

New Location

Finished product...I love it

Undoubtedly you have used to this term "a little goes a long ways" in some form or another. The term itself..."a little [of something] goes a long way, meaning a small amount of something has a greater effect than one might expect.

I have found this to true when I'm out thrifting and not necessarily needing something grand [although I won't pass grand up] but functional and beautiful. I believe that I have found all these necessary qualities in my latest little finds don't you?

Thank you for dropping by The Blue Farmhouse and I hope  you'll drop by again and again and again!

"New Spaces and New Finds"

Welcome to my new breakfast nook

Hanging chandelier

New thrift store find

New painting from Home Goods

Old favorite (giant white mirror and angels)

The Blue Farmhouse

Well we are finally settling into our new home and it feels great living in this big, beautiful, open and light filled space. Some of the features are vaulted ceilings, french doors, plantation shutters, hardwood floors, tile floors, large wrap around outdoor entertaining spaces, front porch and even a private seating veranda off the master bedroom.

Luckily there's a large inventory to choose from due to the years of collecting and thrifting. However, on the flip side I haven't felt the urge to "hunt" except for needing a painting to hang on a empty wall space. But not just any old painting...something that I could live with forever and ever and I found it at a Home Goods store. Of course, I fell in love with the pale blue colors with a brush of Provence yellow which makes this painting very versatile.

So, I'm off to paint the two 70's style plastic flower wall medallions white with hopes of finding the perfect place for them in this new home. I appreciate each one who pauses to read or leave a comment with hopes that you find inspiration every time.

Until next time happy thrifting, collecting and decorating new spaces in your home...

"My New Normal"

Let the tour begin

Down the hallway

Old trunk on dolly wheels

Antique iron bed

A favorite desk

We are blessed, happy and thankful for our new home. Everything is freshly painted and I'm busy making this new place "Home Sweet Home." At times it's a bit overwhelming because of my expansive collections but it's all coming together. Despite having some pictures, clocks and chandeliers to hang or not...I'm enjoying the process.

The white antique twin bed was purchased many years ago from a favorite shop in Coronado, California called The Attic. The bedding is from Pottery Barn and the old suitcases are just finds through the years. My husband re purposed one of the old trucks by simply placing it on an old dolly wheels and putting a glass top on it.

We're still in the process of arranging and rearranging but will share more  pictures really soon. I do hope that you will return again and again. Thank you for dropping by today.

Until next time happy collecting, thrifting and sharing... The Blue Farmhouse

"More Ironstone"

Brown & White Ironstone

Mixing and matching

I'm finding it necessary to be very selective (picky) when it comes to adding more dishes to an already expansive collection. So I walked away...came back much later because I just couldn't or wouldn't resist this find.

Thank you for dropping by and until next time happy collecting, thrifting and  finding more "picky" finds!
